Supreme

Founded 21 April 1994, a Thursday.

Supreme traces its foundational identity to April 21, 1994, when its first store opened on Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan and became a home of New York skate culture. The date carries a 30/3 CUE energy with a 21/3 day, Dog Eastern energy and Taurus Western energy. Dog is the 11th sign, compatible with Tiger and Horse, with Dragon as its direct enemy. Built around local skaters, artists and downtown culture, the original store made the retail space itself part of the identity.

The strongest discovery is that Supreme expands its reach by carrying its original cultural language into larger markets. In the friendly Horse year of 2014, its 20th anniversary releases recreated products from the original Lafayette Street era and appeared across stores in New York, Los Angeles, London and Japan. The recurrence links Supreme’s local foundation directly to its international retail system, showing expansion without replacing the symbols that established the brand.

The Dragon cycle provides an important structural test. In 2024, EssilorLuxottica acquired Supreme from VF Corporation for $1.5 billion, following VF’s 2020 acquisition. The transaction placed Supreme inside a much larger global group, while the parties emphasized preserving its distinct identity, direct commercial model and customer experience. The enemy cycle therefore represents a change in ownership structure that tests how a tightly controlled cultural identity can operate at greater scale.

CUE: Supreme’s strongest signature is turning a specific cultural identity into global reach without replacing the language that made it distinctive. The Dog imprint begins with one downtown New York skate store and reappears in 2014 as the original product language enters an international network. The Dragon cycle then tests that identity inside a much larger corporate structure. The deeper lesson is that cultural strength comes from expanding the system around an identity without allowing the system to replace the identity itself.

Life Path, sun sign and Chinese sign are CUE's reading of the date, not scientific claims. They describe tendencies, never outcomes.
