Fox News Channel launched on October 7, 1996. The date totals exactly 33 in CUE and falls in a Rat year. The 33 is associated with master influence and cultural reach, a striking fit for a network that went on to become one of the dominant forces in American cable news.
Its own Rat cycle shows a clear ratings rhythm. In 2008, Fox completed its seventh consecutive year as the most watched cable news channel during a record election driven year. Twelve years later, in 2020, it recorded the largest annual total day and primetime audiences then achieved by any cable news network.
Rat’s friendly signs add another layer. In the Monkey year of 2016, Fox became the most watched network across basic cable for the year. In the Dragon year of 2024, it again finished first in total viewership across basic cable while posting strong audience growth. Roger Ailes, the executive who built Fox News’s original television identity, was also born in a Dragon year.
Enemy timing does not behave like automatic failure. In the Horse year of 2014, Rat’s direct enemy, Fox reached another major ratings milestone when it topped all cable networks in weekday primetime viewership for the first time since launch.
CUE: Fox News Channel shows why timing works better as a pattern of amplification than as a simple map of good and bad years. Its Rat cycles repeatedly coincide with major stages of audience growth, friendly Monkey and Dragon years bring further expansion, and a major breakthrough in Horse timing prevents the pattern from becoming a rule.
