San Juan carries 28 energy from June 15, 1519, when the relocation from Caparra to the San Juan islet was formally authorized. The order allowed residents to build on the islet, distribute lots, transfer the church, and move the civic settlement to the site that became modern San Juan. The relocation itself unfolded over several years, but this date gives CUE the strongest exact foundational anchor for the city’s present location.
A later legal layer followed on July 20, 1521, when the Spanish Crown formally confirmed and strengthened the relocation, granting the cabildo territorial rights on the islet and supporting the development of the new city. Municipal activity was already taking place there by the end of 1521, while the broader physical transfer was completed through the following period. San Juan therefore developed through successive stages rather than through one single founding moment.
The 1519 date carries a preserved 28, which is especially relevant because the relocation order dealt directly with land, building lots, settlement rights, physical occupation, and the creation of a new urban center. San Juan was also established under Cat energy, and one of its clearest later patterns appears through Cat’s friendly Pig and Goat energies.
In 1539, a Pig year, construction began on El Morro, the fortress that became one of the defining structures of San Juan. In 1595, a Goat year, the city’s defenses successfully resisted the attack led by Sir Francis Drake. Then in 1983, another Pig year, La Fortaleza and the historic fortifications of San Juan were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
