Québec City’s identity cue uses July 3, 1608, when Samuel de Champlain founded Québec at the narrowing of the St. Lawrence River. The date carries 25/7 numerology, a 3 day, 14/5 year energy, Monkey Eastern energy and Cancer Western energy. The site has a much older Indigenous history, including the Stadacona settlement, while 1608 marks the foundation of the French colonial city that became a major political, cultural and commercial center. Monkey is compatible with Rat and Dragon and has Tiger as its direct enemy.
The strongest discovery is that Québec repeatedly turns inherited structures into platforms for new functions. Champlain’s original defensive works developed into a much larger system of fortifications that survived political change and military obsolescence, eventually becoming part of the city’s living heritage. In 1968, another Monkey year, the Festival d’été de Québec was created specifically to animate the streets and public spaces of Old Québec through popular arts. In 2008, a Rat year, the city’s 400th anniversary combined historic identity with major cultural programming while the Old Port was renewed as an active public space.
CUE: Québec City’s Monkey energy is expressed through adaptation without abandoning inheritance. Historic structures do not simply survive as reminders of the past. They become platforms for new civic, cultural and public life, allowing Québec to keep its identity while continually changing what that identity can do.
