Zara opened its first store in A Coruña, Spain, on May 9, 1975, after Amancio Ortega had spent more than a decade developing a clothing manufacturing business. The date carries 9 day energy, 36/9 full-date energy, 22 year energy and Cat symbolism.
The store connected production directly to customers, allowing demand to shape design, manufacturing and inventory. Zara expanded internationally with Porto in 1988, the United States in 1989 and France in 1990, later extending the same model into online retail and a global store network.
The pattern continued through both favorable and challenging cycles. In the friendly Pig year of 2007, Zara expanded internationally, including in China. In the Cat enemy Rooster year of 2017, it opened major flagships and entered new online markets, showing that pressure does not preclude growth.
CUE: Zara turned customer awareness into infrastructure—a repeatable system linking design, production, distribution and retail, then scaling it across markets.
