How It Works
How Chinese Astrology Works
Chinese astrology organizes time into a repeating cycle of 12 animal signs. Each animal represents a different collection of personality traits, strengths, tendencies, relationship patterns, and ways of moving through the world. The 12 signs CUE uses are: Rat Ox Tiger Cat Dragon Snake Horse Goat Monkey Rooster Dog Pig CUE uses the Cat, not the Rabbit, as the fourth animal in the cycle. Your animal year is one of the main Chinese astrology patterns connected to your birthdate, but CUE also studies how animal signs interact with one another. Some signs naturally work well together. Some create stronger attraction, support, or cooperation. Others create friction, opposition, or more difficult lessons. CUE refers to these relationships as Friendly Signs and Enemy Signs. Chinese astrology therefore becomes useful for more than describing personality. It can also add another layer to compatibility, relationships, timing, and the study of repeating patterns throughout life.
How It Works
Chinese astrology uses a repeating 12 year animal cycle to study personality, relationships, compatibility, and timing.
How It Is Calculated
Your sign is based on the lunar year you were born in. CUE changes signs at Lunar New Year, not January 1.
Why It Is Important
Your animal sign adds another layer to numerology, helping CUE study personality, friendly and enemy signs, compatibility, and yearly patterns.

How It Is Calculated
How Earth (Chinese) Astrology Is Calculated
CUE follows a consistent set of House Rules for Chinese astrology. Animal Years The Chinese zodiac year changes at Lunar New Year. It does not change on January 1. If someone is born before Lunar New Year, CUE assigns them to the previous animal year. The associated element follows the same lunar year. This prevents one of the most common mistakes in Chinese zodiac calculations. Animal Months CUE also assigns each part of the calendar year an animal month. Unlike animal years, CUE uses a fixed House Rule for these monthly boundaries. The animal month changes on the 6th. Rat December 6 through January 5 Ox January 6 through February 5 Tiger February 6 through March 5 Cat March 6 through April 5 Dragon April 6 through May 5 Snake May 6 through June 5 Horse June 6 through July 5 Goat July 6 through August 5 Monkey August 6 through September 5 Rooster September 6 through October 5 Dog October 6 through November 5 Pig November 6 through December 5 Using the same rules everywhere keeps your Chinese astrology profile consistent across CUE.
Why It Is Important
Why Chinese Astrology Matters
Numerology and Chinese astrology study different parts of the same birthdate. Numerology looks at numerical patterns. Chinese astrology adds another layer based on recurring animal cycles and the relationships between those signs. Together, they can create a more complete picture. Your numerology may describe certain core tendencies. Your Chinese animal may reinforce some of them while adding completely different characteristics. Compatibility can also look different when multiple systems are considered. Two people may have strong numerical compatibility while carrying more challenging Chinese astrology. Another pair may have relatively neutral numbers but naturally supportive animal signs. Neither system needs to replace the other. CUE studies how the layers interact.
How To Apply
How To Use Chinese Astrology
Chinese astrology becomes most useful when you move beyond simply asking: “What animal am I?” You can begin asking better questions. What qualities are associated with my animal sign? Which signs naturally support mine? Which signs tend to challenge mine? What patterns appear during friendly years? What tends to happen during enemy years? How does my animal interact with someone else’s? How does Chinese astrology reinforce or challenge my numerology? What places, people, or things have energy that are great for me? Over time, you can compare these patterns with your own relationships, decisions, milestones, and life events. This is where CUE’s research approach becomes important. The goal is not to tell you that something must happen because a particular animal year has arrived. The goal is to identify patterns worth paying attention to.
TIMING
Chinese Astrology & Timing
Chinese astrology also gives CUE another way to study time. Every year carries an animal sign. That yearly sign interacts with your own birth animal. A year connected to a friendly sign may create a different environment than a year connected to an enemy sign. Your animal month creates another shorter timing layer within that year. CUE can then study these patterns alongside numerology, including your Personal Year, Personal Month, and Universal timing. The result is not a prediction. It is additional context. CUE is designed around a simple principle: The more relevant layers you understand, the more clearly you can study the pattern.
PATTERNS
PATTERNS, NOT GUARANTEES
Chinese astrology does not determine your future. Being born under one animal does not guarantee a certain personality, career, relationship, or outcome. Friendly signs can still disagree. Enemy signs can build successful relationships. A difficult year can produce major growth. A supportive year still requires good decisions. CUE uses Chinese astrology as a framework for studying tendencies, compatibility, cycles, and repeating conditions. Your choices still matter.
FAQ
What Is Chinese Astrology? Questions
Is your Chinese zodiac based on your birth year or your birthday?
Your birthday matters because CUE uses Lunar New Year as the boundary. If you were born before Lunar New Year, your sign belongs to the previous animal year.
Can two people with enemy signs still be compatible?
Yes. Enemy signs point to more natural friction or challenge, not guaranteed failure. CUE also considers numerology and other compatibility layers before forming a broader view.
Can your Chinese zodiac sign change?
Your birth animal does not change. What changes is the animal energy of each new year and month, which can interact differently with your own sign over time.
